Aubrey has had to fight for her life at a young age and doesn't trust a soul. She was in the foster care system till Rich takes her in, but he didn't love her like a parent should. Rich abused Aubrey in ways no one should, he is a monster and her only escape is to run.
She didn't want to leave Ari behind but she also knew she couldn't take her. She promised to come back for her. Aubrey was out on the streets and she trusted Marcella; she gave Aubrey a job and a safe place for her and Ari to hide. They had to change there names and they were living for the first time in there lives.

Aubrey is one of the strongest girls I have read about in a book. To go through what she has and what she has seen at the hands of Rich (who is a powerful senator) She takes him down so that way she can move on and have the life she deserves. This is a well written story with some tough subjects, violence, mob relations, and motorcycle gangs.
